Maman Rugs is a brand that weaves together a rich tapestry of history, artistry, and creativity. The founder, Samira Gagné Ludwin, was inspired by the legacy of her late grandmother, Maman Houri, who learned the art of weaving carpets at a young age to support her family in the rural village of Jasb, Iran.

Maman Houri's craft and artistry inspired many women in her village to follow in her footsteps. Sadly, she was forced to leave her homeland due to the revolution and spent the remainder of her life in America with her children and grandchildren. Samira, her granddaughter, was inspired by her grandmother's story and sought to continue her legacy through the creation of beautiful carpets.

Samira's journey began in Equatorial Guinea, where she was awed by the handiwork of the people. She drew inspiration from the cityscape of Montreal and the desert landscape of Arizona before finding her creative voice in New York City, where she studied design at the Pratt Institute. She then spent 15 years as a product designer, creating commercially successful houseware lines for mass retailers before embarking on her own venture.

Today, Samira designs her rugs from her studio in Los Angeles, California, in tribute to her grandmother's memory. She works with artisans from a family-run business in Bhadohi, India, who have been weaving carpets for four generations. Each rug is designed with care, incorporating Samira's unique style and creativity, while honoring her grandmother's legacy.

At Maman Rugs, we are committed to preserving the rich heritage of carpet weaving and bringing it into the modern world. Our rugs are not just beautiful pieces of art, but also a testament to the resilience and strength of women who have passed down their craft from generation to generation.
